How to Throw a Great Back to School Party for Your Community

System - Friday, August 26, 2016

Back-to-School time can be a stressful time for parents and students alike. Gone are the days of playing outside all day and eating popsicles in the hot summer sun for the students and gone are the days of enjoying your child’s laughter and smiles all day long. Throwing a Back-to-School party can get students excited to go back to school and will likely help young students to establish some friendships prior to even stepping foot in the front door of their new school. Here are a few tips for a fun party:

1.INVITE: Get everyone excited prior to the event. You can do this by sending out a community invite or email and featuring some of the fun activities that are planned. Make sure to include activities for all age ranges.

2.FOOD: Depending on your community’s budget, either cater or host a potluck alongside the event. This is a good way to make sure people show up. Where there is food, there are people.

3.HOST A Q&A SESSION: Have the older students set up like a panel and allow the young students to ask them questions. This allows the younger to ask the older ones all of their burning questions about their upcoming grade.

4.SHOW & TELL: Allow students to host a show and tell session so that they can tell the whole community about their favorite memory from the summer.

5.COMPETE: Set up different competition stations for students to participate. Some examples can be found HERE

6.PRIZES: Have everyone bring a new school supply. When guests arrive they can place the supply into a bag. Then, at the end of the event, allow each student to pull one prize from the bag.
